Travel Wisconsin’s scenic rural roads for a tour of Frank Lloyd Wright’s home presented to your group with lively commentary by professional guides. A visit to the Taliesin® home is an intimate look at 50 years in the life of one of our country’s greatest architects.
Constructed of simple and inexpensive materials – limestone and sandstone quarried nearby, natural wood and plaster – the house is the most personal of Mr. Wright’s masterpieces. He built it over a period of 48 years and never stopped adding to it or changing it until he died. Sometimes described as more of a hill village than a home, the house seems to grow from the site, with vistas of the surrounding countryside to the east and an intimate hill garden to the west. One of the many highlights of this tour is the 28 by 36 foot living room, a masterful interplay of vertical and horizontal space, flooded with light from banks of windows overlooking the valley and water gardens below. Next to the house and through a covered breezeway is Mr. Wright’s 24 by 30 foot studio. Visiting the house, filled with Mr. Wright’s furnishings and art collections, provides the most intimate view into the genius of America’s greatest architect.
